In the age of the COVID-19 pandemic, the phrase “revenge bedtime procrastination” (RBP) has become increasingly common, reflecting the frustration of losing personal time after long hours at work. Fear not, it is possible to beat bedtime procrastination by cultivating robust sleep hygiene. Here’s the map to a peaceful night’s sleep:
  1. Create calming rhythms: Establish calming activities before bed, such as meditation, reading or relaxing music. Start these rhythms 30 to 40 minutes before bedtime, gradually signaling to your brain that it’s time to relax.
  2. Gradual bedtime adjustments: Gradually adjust your bedtime by 5 minutes every day. In two weeks, you’ll gain an extra hour of sleep. Consistency is key, and in a few months you’ll easily reach your desired bedtime.
  3. Serenity Nest: Improve your sleeping space. Fresh, fragrant bedding or investing in luxury bedding can transform your sleeping space. Make your bed a place of comfort and relaxation, reflecting the story of “The Princess and the Pea”.

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol in the afternoon or evening.
